Thank President Trump For Decertifying the Iran Deal
President Trump just refused to certify that Iran is complying with the nuclear deal (JCPOA) negotiated by President Obama.
This was a flawed and bad deal from the start. The deal was crafted in such a way that the Iranians refuse to allow inspections of their military facilities, and, as the head of the IAEA has said, the agency isn’t able to monitor the part of the deal that forbids Iran from activities that contribute to the development of a nuclear bomb.
President Trump has been correct all along when he said this is one of the worst deals ever made. In addition to giving the Iranians billions of dollars in cash, Obama’s deal also gave Iran a significant financial windfall.
Sadly, nothing can be done about the sweetheart perks Obama already gave the Iranians. What can be done, now that President Trump has refused to certify Iran’s compliance, is to insist on a better deal or else reimpose the crippling sanctions that were lifted when the JCPOA took effect.
